Healthy Environment and A Long Life
Healthy Environment and A Long Life
By Clifford Woods
Individuals have a constant interaction with the environment. These interactions affect the quality of life, either bestowing years of healthy life or causing health problems and shorter lives. Environmental health involves controlling or preventing disease, disability, and injury related to the interactions between the environment and people.
Adverse solid waste material vastly affects the quality of life, resulting in various hindrances in living a healthy and long life, while also making the quality of life in some areas unbearable.
2020 Healthy People Environmental Health Objectives
The 2020 Healthy People Environmental Health Objectives focus on those areas that highlight some elements of environmental health. These consist of air quality outdoors; toxic substances and hazardous wastes; and ground and surface water quality, as well as other elements needed for a healthy environment that promotes a long life.
Quality of Air
When we think of the surroundings and sustainability, air quality is a natural consideration. The air quality touches numerous parts of the ecosystem globally including water, soil, wildlife, vegetation, and human life. In one-way or another, all living things depend on the air around us.
2012 Outdoor Pollution
In 2010, 3.2 million people died early from outdoor air pollution, mostly in Asia, and mostly from soot as well as other pollutants from trucks and diesel cars. This means that outdoor air pollution is now a much larger risk to health than high cholesterol and, along with obesity, is the health risk that is the fastest growing in the world, thus resulting in lack of a healthy environment nourishing quality life.
Solid and Hazardous Waste
Nearly every activity leaves behind some type of waste in the environment. Manufacturing and industrial processes create hazardous solid waste. Some of this waste has chemicals that are hazardous to people and the environment.
When these hazardous chemicals are in the environment, people become exposed to them. Exposure arises when individuals have interaction with the toxic waste, both directly and through other substances polluted with this waste. Living a healthy long life becomes a really tough task under such circumstances.
Companies Not Following Regulations
There are many companies that do not safely dispose of their toxic waste, contaminating entire communities they are located in. This results in many quality of life issues including early onset of cancers and other health problems, especially in the very young and the very old.
Ground and Surface Waters
The quality of ground and surface water possibly has the largest effect on long life – not so much in the United States, but certainly in underdeveloped countries where drinking water is polluted and babies and children often get sick and die from the quality of the water.
Surface water can become stagnant and polluted simply by not having a method to flow and take out many elements of solid waste. Often, surface water is not a good source of potable water and can harm animals, plants, and humans. In many areas of the world, water out of the ground is pumped out, so people can use it for bathing, drinking, and well as other uses in a household, industry and agriculture.
Additionally, groundwater often reaches the surface through other pathways that are natural such as springs. Groundwater that is contaminated affects the health of everything when they bathe or drink water that is contaminated or when they eat anything that has been negatively affected by contamination of groundwater. The dream of a healthy environment is simply not possible without better quality water.
Goals that need to be met
So, anything that contaminates the air, water or other areas of the environment can diminish the quality of life as well as shorten a long life. As times go on, we are contaminating more and more of our drinking water, which is the number one resource that all animals, plants, and human beings need to continue to sustain healthy growth.Clifford Woods is the CEO of Effective Environmental Services

All Purpose Cleaners
All Purpose Cleaners
By Clifford WoodsAll purpose cleaners are soaps and detergents that are multi-purpose. This means that they can be used for various cleaning duties, such as cleaning surfaces and appliances at the same time. While these all purpose cleaners are convenient, they have also come under massive disapproval due to their high toxic content. Many contain hazardous chemicals and in a bid to keep our homes clean, we are also filling them with lots of harmful toxins.
Though the law requires products to list their ingredients, what they do not indicate is the amount of toxicity you get by using these detergents. It is therefore, up to us to ensure that we know what products to use and avoid.
Some of the ingredients to avoid are:
- Petroleum solvents: Commonly found in oil-based paint, paint thinner, spot remover, gasoline, kerosene, and lubricating oil. This solvent can damage the mucous membranes and exposures to paint and solvents have been suggested as potential risk factors of childhood leukaemia.
- Phenols: Phenols are both naturally occurring chemicals and are manufactured by man. 'Phenol' is the name of the simplest member of the family of chemicals of that generic name. Pure phenol is a colorless or white crystalline solid with a powerful sickly sweet antiseptic odor. Commonly found in disinfectants. Excessive exposure to phenol may cause health effects on the brain, digestive system, eye, heart, kidney, liver, lung, peripheral nerve, skin and the unborn child. Phenol may also cause genetic damage.
- Diethylene glycol: Is a colorless, practically odorless, poisonous liquid with a sweetish taste commonly found in window cleaners, Diethylene glycol is toxic to the nervous system and has resulted in numerous epidemics of poisoning since the early 20th century.
- Perchloroethylene (Perc): This is a colorless, nonflammable liquid and another toxic chemical to avoid. It has been associated with liver and kidney damage as well as cancer. It is most popular in spot removers dry cleaning fluid and shoe polish.
- Chlorinated phenols: Chlorinated phenols are believed to be almost entirely man-made in origin. These phenols are harmful to the circulatory and nervous system and are more toxic to aquatic life.
- Butoxyethanol also called Butyl cellosolve: This is a colorless liquid with a sweet, ether-like odor. It is a common chemical in the all-purpose cleaners. It’s quite toxic and has been known to damage the liver, kidneys, bone marrow and the nervous system amongst others.
Buying Non Toxic Detergents There are many non-toxic detergents on the market and the good thing about these is that they are made using plant based and organic ingredients. This means that they are not only great for cleaning your home, but also do not harm your family or pets. They also do not become toxic when they interact with your sewage system or septic and you can rest assured knowing that you are not generating toxic fumes while cleaning the home.
Non Toxic Home Substitutes There are also ways you can keep your home safe from toxins without spending much on commercial all purpose detergents. This obviously depends on the cleaning duty you are undertaking. Great cleaning substitutes you can easily source from your pantry include:
- Baking soda: This is one of the best multi cleaning products you can have in a home. It’s great for scouring and is a great deodorizer as well.
- White vinegar: Vinegar can help you remove wax build up, grease, mildew, odors and certain stains.
- Lemon juice: Lemon contains strong acids that are effective in cutting grease and disinfecting as well.
- Borax: Borax not only cleans, it deodorizes, disinfects and softens water as well.
- Plain soap: Plain soap consists of water, oil and alkali and has no synthetic additives, making it a great all purpose cleaning agent.
- Cornstarch: Cornstarch acts as a great shampoo for rugs, carpets, and windows and can be used as a furniture polisher as well.

Benefits of Having Organically Clean Ponds
Benefits of Having Organically Clean Ponds
By Clifford WoodsAnyone who has a fish pond in their yard wishes there was some easy way to clean it out. It can smell bad and you have to clean it out occasionally to keep it healthy for any fish, so they do not get sick and die.
Even if the pond has a filter, other gadgets and products from the store, there are still going to be times when you need to clean the pond. Ponds tend to become the most polluted parts of our environment. And due to the polluted water in ponds, lakes and rivers, they attract insects and other little creatures, which make the pond even dirtier and can turn it into a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
So, cleaning a pond is not only needed for providing a healthy environment for garden animals, such as frogs or toads, insects and your fish, but also to keep the population of mosquitoes under control. Ponds that are built well and are in harmony with nature will need less maintenance.
Something that ponds do benefit from is organic pond cleaning. This is a method that is beneficial to the health of the fish, as no harsh chemicals are used and the waste that is taken out has many other uses. The use of chemicals also drops the quality of the water making it hazardous for humans as well. In order to have organic healthy ponds; it is essential that only organic pond cleaners are used, as it can keep the ponds clean without any risk to all the life that lives there.
The pond does need to be cleaned at least once a year with the fall or spring being the best time, as the water is cooler during those months and the fish adapt better. If the pond smells bad – you have waited too long. If cleaning the pond is done on a regular basis, it will not get to the point where it might get smelly.
Move the fish to a water tank while cleaning or if you have several ponds, you can just move the fish to another pond. This makes it easier on the fish. You need a brush that is nylon for cleaning the sides of the pond. With the nylon brush, there will probably not be any need for harsh cleaners.
The silt that is on the bottom of the pond can be scraped up and be used in the garden as mulch. This silt is great for gardens and plants, and will make your garden soil really healthy. Another benefit is that this keeps all the essential minerals in the pond for the health and protection of the fish.
Organically cleaning your pond, makes healthy ponds and healthy fish. It also contributes towards a safer environment for any adults or children spending time in the yard and with pets quite frequently drinking the pond water, it will be safe for them too.
There are many ways to contribute towards a safer and healthier environment for all of us to live our lives and the benefits of having organically clean ponds can be one of them.

THE SOLUTION IS EFFECTIVE MICRORGANISMS
The Solution Is Effective Microorganisms
by Clifford WoodsThe technology on effective microorganisms is a mixture of beneficial bacteria and yeast. The top soil can be improved by the addition of these foreign substances. It has proved to be an impressive option all over the world. The know-how can be applied in human health, agriculture sector, livestock rearing and industrial waste treatment.
The skill aims at increasing the number of beneficial matters in soil. The result of the expertise has many advantages. It increases the microbial health in soil and promotes a healthy environment for plants. The bacteria are responsible for fixing atmospheric nitrogen in the earth. They accelerate decomposition of organic wastes and residues. The microbe can be used as an important tool in the manufacture of organic fertilizers.
The ability is extensively used in the livestock sector to enhance the quality and quantity.A disease suppressive microbe is developed when this method is adopted. The matter is introduced into the animal bodies in order to produce antibiotics. These antibiotics are necessary for a good animal health.
There are many examples of bacteria that are used in plant production. Better yields are enhanced in agriculture with the incorporation of this system.
The technology is a mixture of several non engineered matters. Lactic acid bacteria are used to metabolize sugars by fermentation process. Photosynthetic bacteria convert the sun energy into sugars. They can also convert nitrogen gas in the air in a form that the plants can use. Enzymes and antimicrobial substances are particularly crucial in plants.
Effective Microorganisms also known as beneficial microorganisms, improve soil when they are introduced into soil. The possibility of plants doing well is there which promises abundant crop yields. They reduce the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides making them particularly friendly to the environment.A possible sustainable agriculture is likely to be enhanced, with the assimilation of these creatures. They are safe for human, plants and animals.
Foods that are modified using this technology have proved to be an antioxidant. They are friendly on the digestive system. Yeast is significant because the formation process involved produces vitamins. This is an essential mineral that are required by the body. The food products made through this method is safe and full of nutrients supplement. The nutrients do protect from free radical stress and pollution. They suppress disease that may develop in human bodies and build enzyme capacity. There are high chances of the human body being detoxified by the continued use of foodstuff that contains this bacterium.
The system has made it easy for many people all over the world. It allows you to compost meat and dairy products. This system is frightfully common in urban centers. Flower gardens and fruits grow faster hence income increased even by 150%. The labor involved is low.
However, it should be noted that microorganisms may change the power of hydrogen in the soil. This may have negative effects to the soil. Substances to ecosystem can be disruptive and potentially destructive. When using the effective microorganisms, care should be taken to avoid soil erosion in plants. Good results are achieved when the technology is used together with mulching.
